Just two weeks after ending a 16-year silence with the release of “Hurt People Hurt People”, MUDVAYNE have returned with another brand-new single. The latest track, “Sticks And Stones”, has arrived via Alchemy Recordings, accompanied by a visualizer while fans await the forthcoming official music video. Their comeback single, “Hurt People Hurt People”, has already surpassed half a million streams.
While the band’s first offering was an aggressive, primal scream of a return, “Sticks And Stones” takes a more calculated approach, showcasing their skill with quiet-loud dynamics before building to a crushing breakdown.
Frontman Chad Gray shared the personal inspiration behind the track, explaining:
“I was always told ‘sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.’ Well, it’s a great nursery rhyme, but I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve carried a lot of words throughout my life as if they were just spoken to me. The reality is — they do hurt. I’ve tried my best to shed them, but when they come from dear friends, family — people that are supposed to love you — the words have teeth and they won’t let go. Blood doesn’t wash out; it stains. I think I’m just trying to remind people to love their children. Don’t use them as a bullet to fire into your ex or whomever you’re with now. They’re innocent and they are impressionable. And trust me, as a child that was used as a weapon, your words will hurt them… long after you say them.”
Alongside the release, Mudvayne have launched a pre-order for a special double A-side 7” vinyl featuring both new singles. Fans can choose between a standard version, a signed variant limited to 500 copies, and an exclusive edition through Revolver. New merch is also available through the band’s webstore.
The single arrives just as Mudvayne kick off their “L.D. 50” 25th Anniversary Tour, which begins today, September 11, and runs through October 26. The tour celebrates their landmark 2000 debut album, L.D. 50, which cemented the band’s place in the nu-metal and hard rock landscape and later achieved gold certification. The run will feature support from STATIC-X, with VENDED opening.
