The ongoing wildfires sweeping through California have left a trail of destruction, and many in the rock and metal community have been deeply affected. Several high-profile musicians have lost their homes to the flames, while others have been forced to flee, adding to the heartbreaking toll the fires have taken on individuals and families across the state.
Among those impacted are Primus guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde, Spiritbox bassist Josh Gilbert, Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk, and Converge drummer Ben Koller, all of whom have shared the devastating news that their homes have been destroyed. The support and solidarity from fellow musicians and fans have poured in, but the emotional and physical toll is undeniable.
Les Claypool, LaLonde’s longtime bandmate, offered the following post on social media:
Josh Gilbert of Spiritbox also posted an update on his Instagram story, sharing his experience with the fires:

Brad Wilk, drummer of Rage Against The Machine, is another musician who faced the destruction of his home due to the wildfires. His home, along with the homes of several others, was ravaged by the flames. Wilk shared the following message:
“Thanks to everyone reaching out. We are good, but had to evacuate last night. Hosed down the house and grabbed the humans and animals and split…. Oh, and I did grab one thing from the house… this VH women and children first o.g. tee… very aropos. Everybody please be careful and stay safe.”
Ben Koller, drummer of Converge, offered the following update:
Going out to the desert to wait things out. Evac zone was creeping up on us so I made the executive decision to play it safe and get the hell out of the city. Air quality was atrocious, lots of stories of friends and neighbors losing everything, leaving in the middle of the night etc. Thanks for checking in if you hit me up, we’re all safe and heading for clean air. Please look out for each other 🖤
The fires have ravaged not only homes but entire communities, and the rock and metal community is no exception to the widespread loss and destruction. Many musicians are still working through the aftermath, facing not only the loss of their homes but the disruption of their lives and careers.
In response to these tragic events, fans and fellow musicians have reached out to offer support, donations, and words of encouragement during this difficult time.
