District 9/Skarhead’s Myke Rivera Has Passed Away

Myke Rivera—better known to many in the NYHC community as Puerto Rican Myke of District 9 and Skarhead—has passed away. Rivera, who had reportedly been in hospice care following a heart attack, was a longtime fixture of New York hardcore and a deeply influential presence within the scene.

Skarhead vocalist Danny Diablo shared a heartfelt tribute on November 27th, writing:

“I WOKE UP TODAY KNOWING THAT MY BROTHER

HAS LEFT OUR WORLD.

YOU HAD THE SAME BIRTHDAY AS I & WE ROCKED

IN THE SAME BAND FOR MANY OF YEARS.

YOU MADE EVERYONE LAUGH & EVERYONE

MAD AT THE SAME TIME.

YOU HAD A HEART OF GOLD THAT SHINED

& NOW YOU ARE GONE.

I’M GLAD THAT I SAID GOODBYE

& YOU MET BOTH OF MY SONS.

… I LOVE YOU!!!

SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE MY BROTHER!!!

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER

PUERTO RICAN MYKE!!!”

Fellow NYHC trailblazers Madball also honored Rivera, offering:

“Happy Thanksgiving to all! I have much to be Thankful for but this Thanksgiving is bittersweet – Today we lost a friend, brother and member of the nyhc Family. PR Myke was a character like no other and will be missed by so many. Condolences to his daughter and Family. Godspeed my brother … love you!! Also, I’d be remiss not to mention the recent passing of my cousin Chuchi – someone I always held near and dear to my heart. Love and miss you Cuz!! #tillvalhalla #bmforever”

Rivera’s influence and presence within the hardcore community spanned decades, and tributes continue to pour in as fans and peers honor his legacy.
