Nick Jonas is set to step into the iconic Starchild boots of Paul Stanley in the long-awaited KISS biopic Shout It Out Loud. The pop star-turned-actor will take on lead vocal duties in the film and handle Stanley’s singing parts himself, according to a report from Deadline.
Directed by McG—whose resume spans everything from music videos for Korn, The Offspring, and Sublime, to major studio films like Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation—the film will explore the origins and early rise of KISS, one of rock’s most theatrical and influential bands.
Casting is still underway for the rest of the lineup. While there’s no word yet on who will portray Ace Frehley or Peter Criss, McG is reportedly aiming to cast a high-profile name as Gene Simmons, the band’s demon-tongued co-lead and bassist.
Shout It Out Loud has been in development since 2021, and though it was originally expected to debut on Netflix in 2024, production is now slated to begin in late 2025 or early 2026—with a likely release window of 2026 or 2027.
The latest version of the script is being written by Darren Lemke, whose credits include Shrek Forever After, Goosebumps, and Kung Fu Panda 4.
The biopic aims to spotlight the band’s formative years in 1970s New York, capturing how a group of misfits in face paint and leather boots transformed into global rock legends.
Though most widely recognized as a member of the Jonas Brothers, Jonas has built a steady acting career, appearing in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and the MMA drama Kingdom.
Meanwhile, KISS officially wrapped up their touring career at the end of 2023 but recently announced a rare unmasked performance at a Las Vegas fan convention this November—continuing their legacy off the stage in new ways.
With Shout It Out Loud finally moving forward, fans of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers can expect a new generation to experience the fire, flash, and fury that made KISS a household name.
