Outer Gloom, the metallic hardcore project featuring Shai Hulud’s Eric Dellon, have released their second EP, ‘Higher Vessel’. The three-track offering follows the band’s self-titled debut EP, which arrived in February, and finds the group pushing toward a heavier and more aggressive sound.
The new release features “Initiate Rite,” “Predator Caste,” and its title track. The band described the material as a natural evolution from their first release, with a more direct approach both musically and thematically.
“‘Higher Vessel’ is the natural progression of the band from our first, self-titled release. The songs are a bit less subtle. These songs were written with the intention of hitting hard. They’re heavier and more aggressive. Thematically, ‘Higher Vessel’ envelops the inescapable consumption of and reliance on living things – for one to live, the other must die; the unavoidable, necessary violence within us all. Violence the only constant, death the only promise.”
The EP also marks a lineup change behind the kit. Chris Barry has joined Outer Gloom on drums, taking over from John Ross, known for his work with With Honor, since the release of the band’s self-titled effort earlier this year.
Those looking to catch the group live will have an opportunity this December, when Outer Gloom are scheduled to perform alongside Eyehategod, Afghan Haze, and Singe at the following show:
December 2026
- December 19 – Wallingford, CT – Cherry Street Station (with Eyehategod, Afghan Haze, and Singe)
