PERTURBATOR has officially announced his next studio album Age Of Aquarius, due out October 10th via Nuclear Blast Records. The French synthwave innovator, known offstage as James Kent, continues to evolve his cinematic and dystopian sound, and he’s just dropped a new single to match.
“Apocalypse Now”, the album’s opening track, features guest vocals from Kristoffer Rygg of Norwegian experimental legends Ulver, and arrives alongside a visually charged music video directed by David Fitt.
Kent offered the following on the track’s message:
“‘Apocalypse Now’ is a song about the systematic destruction we cause to our own kind. It is our inability to get along with—and often vilify—‘the others.’ Thus accelerating the end of our ways of life through simple hubris and self-validation.”
Fitt added his take on the video’s narrative:
“The lyrics made me wonder: what would the last war look like? A coup? A war of all against all? I imagined world leaders finally fighting their own war—one they’re too cowardly to face themselves. And when the dust settles… what if women took charge? Would power consume them too? Are we doomed as a species? That’s what I want viewers to think about.”
Kent elaborated on the concept behind Age Of Aquarius:
“The first half of the record is all about conflict—violence, misanthropy, everything boiling inside of us. The second half focuses on individualism. Free will over group-think. That’s the central message.”
He added, “Every debate now feels extreme and tribal. You’re either on one side or the other, and if you’re not with me, you’re against me. That mentality is everywhere.”
