Petition Calling for Investigation Into Tim Lambesis Over Alleged Animal Abuse Nears 70,000 Signatures

As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis is once again facing public criticism following the leak of several home surveillance clips that surfaced online beginning in late 2024. The footage includes tense verbal exchanges with his now-former spouse, as well as separate incidents in which Lambesis appears to act aggressively toward his dog — the latter prompting a wave of backlash and a public petition calling for legal and psychological intervention.

The initial footage, released last November, depicts Lambesis in a distressed and agitated state during several interactions inside the home. Additional clips, which began circulating in January 2025, appear to show him being aggressive toward his dog on two occasions. These incidents have drawn concern from fans and animal welfare advocates alike.

In response to the growing controversy, Lambesis described his actions as “anxiety filled reactions and defenses” and claimed that he had been subject to emotional and physical abuse over a period of several years. He also stated that he had filed for divorce and was preparing to pursue a domestic violence investigation before the videos became public. His former partner has since disputed those claims, issuing statements on social media with her own account of the situation.

The footage involving Lambesis’ dog has been the focal point of the most recent criticism. A Care2 petition launched in response has already surpassed 68,000 signatures, calling on California authorities to pursue action and encourage mandatory mental health treatment. At press time, the petition is nearing its 70,000-signature goal.

These developments come in the wake of significant changes within As I Lay Dying. All other members of the band departed in late 2024, with some citing personal and ethical concerns stemming from their experiences working with Lambesis. Despite the departures, he has since stated his intent to rebuild the band with a new lineup.

Notably, since his release from prison in 2016, Lambesis has pursued work in rehabilitation and recovery, including serving as a social worker and mentor for incarcerated individuals seeking to rebuild their lives post-release. He has publicly spoken about his efforts to find personal growth through education, counseling, and service-based work following his conviction.

Lambesis was previously sentenced to six years in prison in 2014 after pleading guilty to attempting to hire a hitman—an undercover officer—to murder his then wife. He served roughly two years before being granted parole.

As of now, no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the newly leaked footage.
