Former Fear Factory drummer Raymond Herrera has returned behind the kit, joining the studio sessions for Angst Fabrik, the project being assembled by former Fear Factory bassist/guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers.
Angst Fabrik has been widely speculated to be Wolbers’ own take on Fear Factory, with the project’s name itself translating from German to English as “Fear Factory.” The project has remained relatively quiet since Wolbers began sharing details about it, though an August 2025 update revealed that 14 songs had been written.
Now, a new video shared by Angst Fabrik has confirmed another notable former Fear Factory member’s involvement.
Herrera can be seen laying down drum parts in the studio, marking a significant return to the instrument after reportedly stepping away from active drumming for around 16 years.
Angst Fabrik captioned the footage:
“After 16 years away from the kit, the machine woke back up. Still runs.”
The post also included the hashtags #machinesofhate and #Mexicutioner.
Herrera was a founding member of Fear Factory and played on many of the band’s most influential releases before eventually departing. His return to the drums adds another major connection to the classic Fear Factory lineup as Angst Fabrik continues to take shape.
The project’s history has also included some potential reunion talk involving former Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell. Bell and Wolbers put their past differences aside for a meeting in January 2025, though Bell later appeared to distance himself from Angst Fabrik.
Meanwhile, Fear Factory continues under guitarist Dino Cazares, who legally assumed control of the band’s trademarks. The current incarnation recently released “Roboticist,” the first single from its upcoming eleventh studio album, which features vocalist Milo Silvestro.
For now, further details regarding Angst Fabrik remain under wraps, including the project’s full lineup and release plans. However, with Herrera now confirmed to have participated in the studio sessions, the project has gained another significant link to Fear Factory’s history.
