Christian alternative rock outfit Red have revealed that longtime frontman Michael Barnes quietly stepped away from the band last year, prior to the launch of their 10th anniversary tour celebrating ‘Of Beauty And Rage’, choosing to spend more time with his family.
The news arrives alongside the announcement of the band’s upcoming ‘End Of Silence’ 20th anniversary North American tour, which will feature support from Ra, Kingdom Collapse, and Twist It on select dates.
As part of the transition, the group confirmed several lineup updates for the run. Drummer Dan Johnson has returned to the band after a four-year absence, while AJ Reingardt of OHKAYA will serve as a fill-in vocalist for the tour as the band actively searches for a permanent new singer.
Barnes is still scheduled to appear for one special performance during the trek, returning for the anniversary show in Dallas, TX. Outside of that appearance, there is currently no announced full-time replacement frontman as the band continues its search for a new voice moving forward.
In addressing the change, the band framed Barnes’ departure as a personal decision made well before fans were aware of any lineup shifts, marking a major turning point as the group balances a new chapter with a celebration of one of its most defining releases.
Originally released in 2006, ‘End Of Silence’ helped establish Red as a prominent force within both the Christian and alternative rock scenes, blending orchestral arrangements with heavy guitars and emotionally driven songwriting — a sound that would come to define the band across the next two decades.

Wait…..20th anniversary tour without the original singer?
Matthew Lee right?!
Matthew Lee who’s going to be the new lead singer
Matthew Lee yea only one with Mike in Dallas, this was planned very poorly
A little ill-timed tour
Chris Epley yeah really think he should have stuck it out and let this be his farewell tour, that’s the right way to go out
Kinda he left elmira ny because stage wasnt big enough. Good riddance
Chris Fronzak just the absolute worst!!!!!
They should’ve left “quietly” three albums ago
So this tour now coming to Dallas that I got tickets for he just dipped out or he’s finishing it out. I’d be really weird if he just didn’t finish it out.
Armon Adibi they saved me
Zora Rose Ellison I used to bounce the trees when they would come there and play we would take them up to the room I remember Mike the lead singer is a very little guy, but he has a strong voice
Armon Adibi it’s not the same without him… I listen to their music, when I get depressed, sad, going through dark things, ect… I want to listen to them now, but I can’t… due to my ego syndrome. they also helped me come out of the unification church. I want them to come back to Arkansas, but now without Mike… it’s just empty
