Russian Circles have officially pulled back the curtain on their ninth studio album, appropriately titled Nine, while simultaneously unveiling its lead single, “Empath,” alongside a video directed by Madeline Hampton.
Set for release on August 28 via Sargent House, the album marks the latest chapter for the long-running Chicago post-metal trio. Sessions for the record began at Electrical Audio, the legendary Chicago studio founded by the late Steve Albini, before concluding at GodCity Studio in Massachusetts with Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou handling engineering duties.
Reflecting on the band’s current creative dynamic, Russian Circles shared:
“The music we make is a collective process of reconciliation, navigation, and reflection upon aging both as individuals and as a creative entity. Life has created very real distances between us, but the band continues to be at the center, and this creative collaboration is a way of charting the passage of time while also giving us a reason to look to the future.”
