After more than three decades of influential releases, lineup changes and landmark moments in metal history, Sepultura have officially played their final concert.
The Brazilian metal veterans brought their farewell run to a close on November 7 at Suhai Music Hall in São Paulo, Brazil. The performance marked the end of a touring career that the band first announced plans to conclude back in December 2023.
The show was originally expected to take place at Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu, but the venue was later changed to the smaller Suhai Music Hall.
While the farewell concert did not feature the return of founding members Max and Iggor Cavalera, it did include an extensive collection of special guests. Attempts had reportedly been made to involve the brothers, whose departures remain significant chapters in the band’s history. Max left in 1996 following a bitter split, while Iggor departed a decade later in 2006.
Instead, the final performance welcomed several musicians with connections to Sepultura’s past and present. Among those joining the band were Andreas Kisser’s son Yohan Kisser, Jairo Guedz, who previously played guitar in the group, and members of Chained Saint, Eminence, Krisiun, Torture Squad and Ratos de Porão.
The lengthy set also featured a number of notable rarities. According to reports from the show, “Itsári” was performed for the first time since 1998, while “Reza” returned for the first time since 2005. “Altered State,” “We’ve Lost You” and the Ratos de Porão cover “Crucificados pelo sistema” also made long-awaited appearances.
Guedz joined the band for three songs, including “Biotech Is Godzilla,” “Slave New World” and “Troops Of Doom.” Other guest appearances included Moyses Kolesne on “Itsári” and “Kaiowas,” Amilcar Christofaro on “Beneath The Remains,” and Ratos de Porão members on two of their band’s covers.
