Polyphia Guitarist Tim Henson Shows Off New Slide Guitar Skills With “He Is Risen” Performance

Polyphia guitarist Tim Henson spent the Easter weekend exploring a new musical direction, sharing a performance of the hymn-inspired piece “He Is Risen” while showcasing his developing slide guitar technique.

The instrumental clip highlights a different side of Henson’s playing, as the technically acclaimed guitarist experimented with slide phrasing — a style not typically associated with his modern progressive approach. The performance takes inspiration from the traditional hymn of the same name, long connected to Easter celebrations and interpreted by countless musicians over the years.

According to Henson, the venture into slide guitar is still in its early stages, and he credited guitarist Stanly Bactian for helping him begin learning the technique. Writing on social media, Henson explained:

“Thank you @stanly_bactian for teaching me slide guitar still very new into this journey so hopefully I can find some cool ways too implement it into my playing.”

Bactian himself has built a strong reputation for his slide work and expanding technical style. In 2025, the virtuoso further raised his profile by joining Tosin Abasi’s Abasi Concepts instrument line, aligning with the brand founded by the Animals As Leaders guitarist.

While Henson is best known for blending hyper-modern guitar techniques with electronic and hip-hop influences in Polyphia, the addition of slide guitar suggests another potential evolution in his already genre-blurring sound.
