Tommy Vext is stirring up conversation again — this time over the future of Bad Wolves and a new project he’s building alongside former guitarist Chris Cain. According to Vext, the two have been quietly shaping a new band, and at one point even attempted to reclaim the Bad Wolves name outright.
Industry chatter earlier this year suggested Vext and Cain were considering a full-scale reboot of the multi-platinum outfit, with Vext returning as frontman. The timing aligned with a major shakeup inside the current Bad Wolves lineup: Doc Coyle and Kyle Konkiel exited in April, while Daniel “DL” Laskiewicz departed in June to join Falling In Reverse.
That left drummer John Boecklin as the sole founding member, joined by AJ Rebollo and Kevin Creekman — a shift that sparked speculation about the group’s identity and future direction.
In recent Instagram comments, Vext claimed he and Cain offered Boecklin $1 million to purchase full rights to the Bad Wolves name. Boecklin, he says, ultimately passed on the deal after weeks of consideration.
“We offered a million dollars for the name back and John changed his mind after six weeks. It was confusing… but we wish him well and good luck with Sarah and Javier!”
Vext’s mention of “Javier” appears to reference Animals As Leaders guitarist Javier Reyes, who fans believe may now be part of Boecklin’s revised lineup. Current speculation also points to vocalist Sarah JoAnne of anchor.thought joining the fold, though no official announcement has been made.
Vext expanded on the situation further:
“The singer is a great vocalist and the new guitarist is from a prog band called Animals As Leaders. I’m sure it’ll be a cool band — I’m just not sure why they’re calling it Bad Wolves when Doc, Kyle, Chris, DL, Max, and I have all left.”
He also summed up the band’s recent turnover in another comment:
“DL quit and joined Falling In Reverse. Doc quit and joined Snot. Kyle got a corporate gig. Chris quit again and formed a new band with me. John hired a chick singer — now the drummer is the only original member.”
Vext added one more pointed remark, referencing his concerns about the band’s direction:
“Hopefully the new record kicks ass and they don’t go further woke.”
Vext previously hinted at forming a new band after holding auditions in August, where musicians performed covers of Bad Wolves songs. At the time, he insisted the tryouts were for a new, unrelated project — one he’s continued teasing recently with photos featuring three unidentified members.
His history with Bad Wolves remains one of the most publicly turbulent breakups in modern metal. Vext exited the band in 2021 after clashes over political statements, internal tensions, and a domestic violence case that turned into a high-profile dispute. Lawsuits were settled that same year, but friction reignited in 2024 with another round of accusations and social-media sparring between Vext and former bandmates.
