Vicious Rumors Part Ways With Drummer Larry Howe Following Controversial Political Views

Power metal veterans Vicious Rumors have announced they will no longer be touring with long-time drummer Larry Howe, citing issues with his “extreme” personal political views. Howe, who first joined the band in 1985 and returned in 2005, remained a fixture until recent tensions caused four European shows to be canceled.

In a statement posted to social media on February 18th, the band clarified:

“VR is about the music! Not politics! Due to Larry’s extreme views that have nothing to do with VR, four shows have been canceled so far. It’s not about choosing sides—it’s about entertainment for all.”

The band continued:

“After years of disagreement on the issue, Vicious Rumors will no longer be touring with long-time drummer Larry Howe. As hard as it is to let an original member go, VR can no longer tolerate being punished by association for Larry’s personal opinions. Our message is simple and clear: Unity and celebrating Heavy Metal together! This message hasn’t changed since VR started in 1979.”

Howe will honor the band’s commitments for the upcoming U.S. leg of The Devil’s Asylum Tour (Feb 25 – Mar 28), while a replacement drummer will be announced soon.

In a personal statement shared via Facebook, Howe expressed his perspective:

“The heavy metal industry is one of the smallest markets in the entire music industry, and we shouldn’t allow it to disintegrate through infighting. Yes, I am guilty of reposting memes that upset some people. I apologize. But we cannot allow opinion to splinter the foundation of the heavy metal scene… United we stand, divided we fall. I will politely step away from the European tour, but I’m still performing the American dates.”

Vicious Rumors emphasized that Howe’s departure is not a reflection on the band’s core message, which remains focused on bringing fans together through music.
