Vitriol have announced a major lineup shakeup, revealing the departure of drummer Matt Kilner and the addition of bassist/vocalist Brett Leier (Gargoyl). The Portland-based death metal unit shared the update via social media on July 31st.
In their statement, the band confirmed that Kilner has stepped away after a two-year run:
“We are deeply saddened to announce that Matt Kilner has chosen to step away from Vitriol… While I imagine that most people’s first instinct is to ask why, Matt‘s reasoning is his own, and we want to afford him the respect of not speaking on his behalf… We are pained to see him go.”
On a more positive note, Brett Leier has joined the group, contributing both bass and vocals. Frontman Kyle Rasmussen praised his new bandmate:
“Brett is a wildly talented instrumentalist with a very potent creative mind… He also looks like he’d be camped out in a Serbian gas station bathroom with chicken wire pulled tight, which I think is a pretty sweet vibe.”
Leier will join Vitriol and Keith Merrow on their soon-to-be-announced tour, as the band re-emerges as a four-piece. Updates on the drummer position are expected in the near future.
