Rising teenage hardcore punk outfit XCOMM have unleashed their new single “Fake ID”, complete with an accompanying music video. The track continues the band’s collaboration with legendary producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot), who also oversees the group’s forthcoming debut album.
Frontman Michael Gatto explained the inspiration behind the song, which taps into the frustration of being shut out of shows due to age restrictions:
“‘Fake ID’ rips! It’s about getting rejected from shows for being under 21 when all you want to do is check out a band.
The video shoot was amazing — it was so funny to walk around town dressed as grandmas for a day. I thought we looked great and I love how the video concludes with us walking into the ocean…”
XCOMM have already begun turning heads, in part due to their pedigree — the band features Revel Ian, son of Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian — but they’ve quickly proven they’re more than a novelty, channeling raw hardcore energy with a modern bite.
Produced once again by Robinson, “Fake ID” reinforces the band’s stripped-down, confrontational sound and signals what’s to come on their debut full-length, ‘Time To Burn’, which is currently in the works.
The band are also set for a high-profile appearance tonight (January 14th), opening Foo Fighters’ charity concert at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, CA — a show that also serves as a birthday celebration for Dave Grohl.
XCOMM are signed to Blowed Out Records, the label founded by Ross Robinson alongside Ghostemane and Bill Armstrong.
