As the metal world prepares for tomorrow, July 5th, and the historic ‘Back To The Beginning’ farewell show for BLACK SABBATH and OZZY OSBOURNE, longtime Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde is holding out hope that the sendoff won’t be as final as it seems.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Wylde joked about his duties at the Birmingham, UK event—“I’ll be doing dishes and laundry, and it’ll be wonderful…”—before laying out plans to perform with Ozzy, jam with Pantera, and watch Sabbath bring it home.

According to Wylde, the event will feature short, impactful sets, with most artists performing two originals and one Sabbath cover. Promoter Andy Copping previously confirmed a rotating stage and surprise guests to keep the marathon lineup flowing. Among the bands on deck: Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, and many more.
Wylde also confirmed some of the musicians joining Ozzy onstage:
Mike Inez, Michael Bordin, Tommy Clufetos, Robert Trujillo, and Adam Wakeman, among others.
“It’ll be everyone that’s played with Ozzy over the years. We’re going to figure it out when we get there,” he said.
As for the future? Wylde hopes it’s not a hard goodbye:
“If Oz sounds great… we’ll just make the throne go out over the audience. It shoots fire and water and dragons come out of it. And we’ll make the throne part of the show. It’d be amazing.”
He continued:
“If they do this Sabbath thing and it sounds amazing… Why not, right? You know every promoter’s just got their fingers crossed on this one.”
Proceeds from tomorrow’s sold-out show will benefit Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice. An all-star tribute set led by Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) will feature a stacked roster of collaborators paying tribute to the music of Sabbath and Ozzy.
Confirmed performers for the Morello-led covers set include:
Andrew Watt, Billy Corgan, Chad Smith, Danny Carey, David Draiman, David Ellefson, Duff McKagan, Fred Durst, Lzzy Hale, Jake E. Lee, Jonathan Davis, KK Downing, Mike Bordin, Papa V Perpetua, Rudy Sarzo, Sammy Hagar, Slash, Soundgarden, Steven Tyler, II (Sleep Token), Tom Morello, Vernon Reid, Whitfield Crane, and more.
The event will be livestreamed worldwide tomorrow, July 5th, via backtothebeginning.com.

Sorry to say but it will be
I think Ozzy might record some more, but touring I doubt it. Black Sabbath should record at least 1 more album with Bill.
Bob Dodge what ozz should do is… something light. Bring back ozzfest. And at certain cities have him perform 4-5 songs.. that be perfect for him. He don’t want to not play
Ozzy ain’t REALLY DONE until he’s dead.
Love ozzy to death but he can barely sing let him be
Drew Carvalho did you listen to the show. He sang perfectly. Out of breath maybe once for crazy train everything else he nailed.. I think he could do “no more tours” in America.. like 5 or 6 shows with support obviously
Brayven Hager yeah I watched the whole show and I’ve seen him live 3 times ,once solo twice with sabbath. Ozzy didn’t sound great I mean great effort but its not even close i mean he can’t even stand
A person can still make music but still retire from the stage that’s what a lot of you aren’t understanding that’s what he’s doing he’s retiring from the stage not from making music
Guessing he’s done with live shows. But they can still perform magic with a studio
Would of been cool if he would of sang Crack Cocaine
