As I Lay Dying have officially launched a new chapter with the release of their comeback single “Echoes”. The track arrives alongside a new music video directed by Tom Flynn, marking the band’s first material since yet another major lineup shift last year.
In November 2024, the California metalcore outfit saw its lineup collapse for a second time, with the now-former members publicly attributing the split to vocalist Tim Lambesis and what they described as “concerning behavior.” Despite the turmoil, Lambesis pledged to rebuild AS I LAY DYING once more — and “Echoes” stands as the first glimpse of that renewed effort.
The current studio lineup for “Echoes” includes:

Vocals/Bass: Chris Clancy (Mutiny Within, etc.)
Guitars: Bill Hudson (NorthTale, Tommy Vext, etc.)

Frail words collapse was very much Tim’s project, he even directed Jordan’s drums. Shadows was the beginning of the members having more of a say in their parts. An Ocean Between us is when they really blew up and became THAT BAND because the proficient members had real input in the composition And that feel is gone with the high turnover rate of the Lambesis project. Screw AILD without those other members, I’ll take Wovenwar and other good bands like August Burns Red any day.

I have a feeling that part of Wovenwars inability to gain success was due to wonderful gatekeepers such as yourself. I personally did enjoy their material, but its not exactly easy making a living as a metal band, regardless of sub-genre. Its not like everyone that listened to “As I” or other metalcore was going to immediately listen to Wovenwar. Spiritbox for example wasn’t big right away, it took years and multiple releases but they are arguably now the biggest name in Metalcore. “As Tim Lays Dying” will not measure up to that same success.
Funny thing is I actually do like this song, but all the best parts of it have once again nothing to do with Tim, the instrumentals, the cleans are all great. Tim is using his typical two note scream with no range outside of those two notes.
