As I Lay Dying are closing in on their next studio effort, with the band confirming that writing for their ninth full-length album is essentially complete.
The metalcore outfit are currently on a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough album ‘Shadows Are Security’, including a controversial run of dates across Russia. That trek will wrap up later this month with a show in Israel, after which the group plan to shift their full attention toward recording their next album.
Speaking recently with Egor Erushin, bassist/vocalist Chris Clancy revealed that the band already has more material written than they need and will continue refining the songs while traveling on tour.
“We’ve got all the songs ready. We’ve got way more songs than we need, and we’ve been whittling through ’em. So we’re gonna sit down while we’re on the road, actually, and kind of do some more development to the songs. And when we get back [home after the tour], we’re gonna really start recording it. So we were gonna start recording it in February, but we thought, well, as we’re all together, we can kind of develop ideas together as a group and go from there. So it’s gonna be a busy tour, for many reasons. But we’ve got a lot of hours when we’re traveling.”
Frontman Tim Lambesis, who rebuilt the band’s lineup in 2025 following another wave of member departures the previous year, echoed that sentiment and confirmed that recording the new album will become the band’s top priority once the current tour concludes.
“I will say this — as soon as we get home from this tour, it’s our highest priority to focus on that. We cleared everything up so that this is entirely the focus after this.”
The band also noted that revisiting ‘Shadows Are Security’ on tour has influenced some of the new material. According to Lambesis and Clancy, at least a few of the newly written songs lean into elements of the band’s earlier sound.
