Platinum-certified metalcore outfit Beartooth have officially announced their sixth studio album ‘Pure Ecstasy’, which is scheduled for release on August 28 through the band’s new label home, Fearless Records.
The announcement arrives alongside the premiere of a new music video for the album’s title track, offering another preview of the record following the recent release of “Free” — a single that sparked heavy discussion online due largely to vocalist Caleb Shomo unveiling a dramatic new visual transformation in its accompanying video.
“Pure Ecstasy” was co-written by Misha Mansoor of Periphery and former Bring Me The Horizon member Jordan Fish, with Fish also serving as a co-producer on the album alongside Shomo and Beartooth bassist Oshie Bichar.
Speaking about the new single, Shomo explained why the song was chosen to open the album.
“Song one is always a crucial part of an album to me. It’s gotta lock you into the vibe out of the gate.”
He also revealed the track’s origins during studio sessions with Mansoor.
“‘Pure Ecstasy’ was birthed in a studio with Misha Mansoor, ridiculous loudspeakers, and the dumbest heaviest chugs we could chug.”
After additional work with Jordan Fish, Shomo said the track naturally evolved into the album opener.
“Once it was brought home and expanded on with Jordan Fish, there was no question it was the album opener. Play loud and kick ass.”
A press release accompanying the announcement described ‘Pure Ecstasy’ as a major creative shift for the band, emphasizing a more collaborative writing and recording process than previous Beartooth releases.
“‘Pure Ecstasy’ represents something different. Bigger and more collaborative than any previous Beartooth album, the record finds Shomo stretching himself toward a new level of vulnerability – and for the first time he didn’t do it alone.”
The statement also highlighted contributions from Skyler Accord, known for work with Issues, Twenty One Pilots, and Bilmuri, while noting that Jordan Fish helped push Shomo into more emotionally exposed territory lyrically and creatively.
For the first time in the band’s history, Shomo also did not perform every instrument on the record himself. The release instead features increased involvement from Beartooth’s live lineup, including guitarists Zach Huston and Will Deely, bassist Oshie Bichar, and drummer Connor Denis, who handled drums throughout the sessions at NRG Recording Studios.
The press release summarized the album’s thematic direction by stating:
“For years, Beartooth turned pain into anthems shouted back at the world. ‘Pure Ecstasy’ captures what happens on the other side of that fight: not perfection or peace, but the possibility of freedom.”
