Boundaries have officially announced their fourth studio album, ‘Yearning: The Unbeautiful After’, due out July 17. The upcoming release marks the Hartford, Connecticut metalcore band’s first full-length since signing with Sumerian Records.
Alongside the announcement, the band have debuted a new single titled “Death Will Follow Me”, complete with an official music video. The track follows lead single “Skies Cast Amber Black” and offers another preview of the emotionally heavy and sonically aggressive direction of the new record.
The album was recorded with producer Drew Fulk (Knocked Loose, Fit For A King), with vocalist Matt McDougal explaining that the material was shaped by grief and tragedy following the fatal plane crash that claimed the lives of several figures within the heavy music community, including Dave Shapiro, Daniel Williams, Kendall Fortner, and Emma Huke. The record is dedicated to those who were lost.
“This time last year was one of significant sorrow for this band and many others. The tragic accident that took the lives of our friends so suddenly has since had us in a state of perpetual mourning.”
McDougal added that the band wanted to make a record with urgency and impact.
“Heavy music continues to lose its teeth. This genre is supposed to be threatening; it should have an edge and make you feel something. We tried to create an album with urgency.”
He also explained the deeper meaning behind the album title.
“What do you want from life, relationships, or whatever you spend time on? Time is the only resource with any real value.”
