Former Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell is revisiting one of the band’s most influential records in a very different setting.
Bell has announced a three-date spoken word run dubbed ‘Obsolete By Word Of Mouth’, which will see him reflecting on Fear Factory’s gold-certified 1998 album ‘Obsolete’ in front of extremely limited audiences.
The events will be intentionally disconnected from the usual concert experience. Each performance will be capped at just 50 guests, with attendees required to put away their phones and prohibited from filming or recording the presentation.
“There will be no screen between the audience and the experience, and no social media feed capable of recreating what happened in the room. The only way the experience travels beyond those 50 people is the way stories once traveled — from one person to another, by word of mouth.”
Bell’s presentation will focus on the story behind ‘Obsolete’ and his experiences surrounding the album, with each event running for approximately one hour.

Guest arrival is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with the spoken word presentation running from 8:00–9:00 p.m. at each stop. Tickets are priced at $50, with only 50 guests permitted at each event.
Bell departed Fear Factory in 2020 and has since continued working as a solo artist. Fear Factory, meanwhile, are preparing their first album featuring vocalist Milo Silvestro, following Bell’s exit.
