Casey Wasserman, CEO of Wasserman Media Group, has revealed that he intends to sell the company. The announcement comes after a number of artists publicly criticized Wasserman following the appearance of his name in documents linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In a company-wide message obtained by Deadline, Wasserman addressed his employees directly, expressing regret for the personal discomfort caused by his past interactions and explaining the reasoning behind the sale:
“At this moment, I believe that I have become a distraction to those efforts. That is why I have begun the process of selling the company, an effort that is already underway. During this time, Mike Watts will assume day-to-day control of the business while I devote my full attention to delivering Los Angeles an Olympic Games in 2028 that is worthy of this outstanding city.”
The move is widely seen as a strategic step that could benefit the agency’s talent. By selling the company, employees and artists represented by Wasserman Media Group have the option to distance themselves from Wasserman personally, while still maintaining access to the agency’s infrastructure and resources. Remaining with the agency during the transition can also preserve their professional opportunities and career support, though it also indirectly positions them as valuable assets in the sale process, which could benefit Wasserman financially.
Wasserman reflected on the company’s legacy and his gratitude toward the staff:
“I so appreciate the passion and fight you bring to your jobs. It’s why you succeed. I’m beyond proud of what this company has accomplished to date and excited to watch its next chapter.”
The CEO emphasized that his brief interactions with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell occurred over two decades ago and were limited in scope, including a humanitarian trip and a few email correspondences, which he now regrets. He also expressed empathy for the victims of Epstein’s crimes and reaffirmed his commitment to professional excellence for the company’s clients and partners.
Wasserman Media Group, founded 24 years ago, represents thousands of clients across sports, entertainment, and talent management. The sale of the company marks a major transition for the firm and signals a potential reshaping of leadership and ownership in the wake of public scrutiny.
