THE MARS VOLTA’s Cedric Bixler-Zavala Says ‘Alien: Earth’ Soundtrack Feels Like “Nancy Reagan Pushing Her DARE Agenda”

The debut season of FX’s ‘Alien: Earth’ has taken the long-running Alien franchise in some surprising new directions this year — and while its story twists have sparked plenty of debate, so has its soundtrack.

Nearly every episode of the Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion)-created sci-fi horror series has featured a hard rock or metal needle drop to close things out. Songs used throughout the season have included:

Black Sabbath – “The Mob Rules”
Tool – “Stinkfist”
Metallica – “Wherever I May Roam”
Jane’s Addiction – “Ocean Size”
The Smashing Pumpkins – “Cherub Rock”
Godsmack – “Keep Away”
Queens Of The Stone Age – “Song For The Dead”
Pearl Jam – “Animal”

However, not everyone is on board with those choices. Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta voiced his frustration on social media earlier today (October 23rd), taking issue with how the songs were integrated into the show.

Cedric wrote:

“No more ‘Unc’ rock at the end of Alien: Earth episodes please. Fucking monster energy drink bullshit.”

When a fan replied asking, “Wait what’s wrong with Tool and QOTSA?”, Cedric clarified his stance:

“Nothing at all. It just doesn’t fit on that show. It feels like Nancy Reagan pushing her DARE agenda on me but with that kinda music.”

While his comments weren’t a direct attack on the artists themselves, Cedric made it clear that he felt the placement and tone of the songs clashed with the show’s overall atmosphere.
