Chimaira are celebrating the 15th anniversary of their 2011 album ‘The Age Of Hell’ with an extensive new deluxe release, while frontman Mark Hunter has also confirmed that fans can expect a vinyl pressing of another fan-favorite album to follow.
The Ohio-based groove metal band’s penultimate studio album will receive a deluxe box set featuring a variety of physical and digital extras. The set includes a replica tour laminate, a bullet-shaped USB drive containing digital copies of the album, a 51-minute documentary, photos, wallpaper, and the bonus EP ‘The Lost Word’.
‘The Lost Word’ features eight previously unreleased demos and will also be included on purple vinyl as part of the deluxe package. Additional collectibles include a Year Of The Snake woven backpatch, a sigil slipmat, and a chaos star foil sticker.
The original special edition bonus tracks “Scum Of The Earth” and “Your Days Are Numbered” are also being made available on vinyl for the first time. The album itself has been newly remastered specifically for the 15th anniversary release, which is expected to arrive around November 30th.
Separate 2-LP vinyl editions are also being offered in limited-edition variants, with pre-orders for the box set and accompanying merchandise currently available.
Hunter reflected on the album’s place in Chimaira’s history, particularly given the turmoil surrounding the band during that era.
“By the time The Age of Hell came out, Chimaira was already coming apart. People argued for years over whether it was a return to form or even really a Chimaira record, and both sides had a point. We finished it anyway, pulling from everything we had been because none of us knew if there would be another one.”
“I have never apologized for this album. It is exactly what it is: the sound of holding on. Fifteen years later, thank you to everyone who found something in it, defended it, hated it, or cared enough to keep arguing about it. This one is still for you.”
While ‘The Age Of Hell’ is getting the anniversary treatment, Hunter has also teased what appears to be another highly anticipated physical release for Chimaira fans.
Following the announcement of the anniversary set, Hunter took to social media and simply confirmed:
“Yes. Impossibility vinyl is next.”
That statement points toward a vinyl release of Chimaira’s 2003 sophomore album ‘The Impossibility Of Reason’, which remains one of the band’s most popular and celebrated releases.
Chimaira previously marked the album’s 20th anniversary with a special edition and a live performance celebrating the record. That anniversary show was also filmed for a previously unannounced release, although it remains unclear whether any of that footage or audio will be incorporated into the upcoming vinyl edition.
For now, ‘The Age Of Hell’ is officially getting the deluxe anniversary treatment, while ‘The Impossibility Of Reason’ vinyl appears to be next in line.
