Zetra are stepping into a new chapter, leaving behind the corpse paint and cloaks that helped define their earlier image while also introducing a noticeable shift in their musical direction with their latest single, “Adrena.”
The synth rock outfit have quite literally lifted the veil with the new release, presenting a more exposed look that reflects the broader creative changes taking shape within the band. The move marks a departure from the contrast between their former black metal-inspired aesthetic and their more ethereal songwriting approach.
Speaking with Kerrang!, guitarist and vocalist Adam discussed the thinking behind the band’s original presentation and why a change became necessary as they moved toward this new era.
“When we decided to put on the make-up early on, we considered the spirit of Zetra the driving force behind what we were trying to do, why it was important and unique was tied to the combination of the black metal aesthetic with a more ethereal music and songwriting style. It was about this being a unique band for people to get their teeth into and ask questions about. A lot of it was to do with the contrast between look and sound. But as we move into a new, sunlit world, we couldn’t stay the same. We expect it to provoke a lot of questions.”
The band’s latest single, “Adrena,” serves as an introduction to that refreshed identity, with both their visual presentation and musical approach evolving together.
For a deeper look at the changes taking place within Zetra, including the ideas behind this new direction, the band have also discussed the transition in a new interview with Kerrang!.
