Chimaira Members To Resurrect Their Mid-90s Bands Ascension & Skipline For November 2026 Show

Fans of Chimaira are set to get a rare glimpse into the band’s origins later this year, as precursor bands Ascension and Skipline will reunite for a special one-night-only concert in Cleveland, Ohio.

The event, dubbed ‘Back To Before The Beginning’, will take place November 13th at Globe Iron and will feature Ascension headlining alongside Skipline, an unannounced special guest, and Vicar Blood opening the night. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale this Friday, May 29th.

Ascension featured future Chimaira members Matt DeVries and Jason Hager, while Skipline included future Chimaira vocalist Mark Hunter and bassist Jim LaMarca alongside Ben Schigel, who would later join SW1TCHED and work extensively with Chimaira as a producer and collaborator.

Speaking about the reunion, Hunter reflected on the importance of Skipline in the early development of Chimaira and Cleveland’s hardcore and metal scene.

“I’m returning to the stage this year with the band that started it all: Skipline.

We were only around for a year and a half in the mid 90s. Just a bunch of friends, barely out of school, not taking it too seriously. Then it started to move. And just as fast as it started, it splintered apart.
But the seeds were planted.

A lot of what became Chimaira started there. We even covered not one, not two, but three Skipline songs in the early days. Ascension was part of that same world too. Matt and Hager were there. Looking back, it almost feels like it was supposed to happen that way.

I’m excited to reunite with everyone and get back on guitar.
