Cold Slither, the fictional villainous metal band from the classic ‘G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero’ animated series brought to life by members of Gruesome, Exhumed, and other metal veterans, have unleashed a new music video for their previously released B-side “Cobra Island.”
The real-world incarnation of Cold Slither was formed last year in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original “Cold Slither” episode from the iconic 1980s animated series. The band was brought from the screen to both the stage and studio, eventually releasing their self-titled debut album this past July.
The newly unveiled video for “Cobra Island” was overseen by Cold Slither’s own Torch, also known as Ross Sewage of Exhumed and Ghoul fame.
The band’s Zartan, portrayed by Gus Ríos of Gruesome, offered the following in character regarding the track:
“Well, once again The Commander has rounded up enough money to warrant my Dreadnoks and I to crawl out of our swamp and record some new music. At the same time paying us to secure his stronghold, the Terrordrome… So I wrote a song about just that.”
He continued:
“Enjoy ‘Cobra Island’ but be warned… You DO NOT want to find yourself washing up on these shores! Cobraaaaa!!!”
Featuring a lineup of underground metal veterans, Cold Slither’s self-titled debut album serves as a tribute to one of the strangest and most memorable moments in animated music history, while delivering a fully realized take on the fictional band’s heavy sound.
