Chicago-based System Of A Down tribute band Peephole got an unforgettable surprise when Daron Malakian, the band’s vocalist and guitarist, showed up unannounced during one of their shows. Malakian, who was in town ahead of System Of A Down’s first of two Soldier Field stadium shows, joined the tribute band onstage at The Cubby Bear for a performance of “Cigaro”, thrilling the intimate audience.
Reflecting on the impromptu appearance, Malakian shared on social media:
“None of this was planned. We had a day off before our show in Chicago and I went out to dinner, then decided to take some photos around town. While in front of Wrigley Field, I heard the intro to ‘Needles’ from a bar across the street. My cousin thought it was karaoke, but it was a SOAD cover band. I walked in, went to the front of the stage, and surprised the band and the audience. I joined them for ‘Cigaro’, shook hands, took pictures, and walked out. One of the coolest moments I’ve ever had. I’ll always remember this night, and I’m sure everyone there will too!”
Peephole also took to social media on August 31st, expressing their amazement:
“Last night the unthinkable happened. @daronmalakian from @systemofadown heard us playing from the street, came in, and sang ‘Cigaro’ with us! A dream come true — we love SOAD and cannot believe how fortunate we are. Thank you, Daron!”
