Glassjaw and Head Automatica vocalist Daryl Palumbo has offered an update on both projects, revealing that he and Glassjaw guitarist Justin Beck continue to work on ideas while also making significant progress on new Head Automatica material.
Palumbo discussed his career, musical influences and current projects during a recent appearance on Good Charlotte vocalist Joel Madden’s ‘Artist Friendly’ podcast.
When asked about the music he has been working on, Palumbo confirmed that there is still plenty happening within both projects.
“Glassjaw always — me and Justin [Beck, Glassjaw guitarist] — always have a bunch of ideas always going around. Always a bunch of reworks going on of things when we’re playing. Um, lot of new Head Automatica stuff.”
While Palumbo did not confirm that a new Glassjaw release is currently in the works, his comments indicate that the band continues to develop and revisit ideas.
Glassjaw’s most recent full-length album, ‘Material Control’, arrived in 2017, meaning nearly a decade has now passed since the band’s last studio record.
Palumbo also reflected on his favorite Glassjaw release, pointing back to the band’s early hardcore days and their 1997 debut EP, ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’.
“I always enjoyed the very avant-garde screamy moments the most. I don’t know. I like uh, we had a five-song EP before our first real record, back in the hardcore show days, and that was my favorite.”
As for Head Automatica, Palumbo revealed that the band is much further along with its new EP. Several tracks have already been fully recorded, while the group is currently performing two of the new songs live and preparing a third.
“There’s a lot of tunes that are pretty, pretty ready to go. We’re playing a bunch. Playing two right now. Pretty much a third one is kind of ready to be played. We have a bunch. Definitely a bunch fully tracked and ready.”
Palumbo described the forthcoming material as energetic and stylistically varied, with some songs leaning heavily into pop while others embrace a more aggressive and dance-oriented sound.
“It sounds great. A lot of it sounds really great. High energy. Good. Very fun. Some of it’s pretty pop, poptacular. A lot of it is, you know, far out, a little more aggressive and dancey.”
