    DISTURBED’s David Draiman Responds to Boos During Black Sabbath Farewell Performance

    Disturbed frontman David Draiman has responded to the mixed reception he received during his performance at ‘Back To The Beginning’, the farewell live celebration for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath held on July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK.

    Draiman was part of one of the event’s all-star supergroup tributes, where he took the stage to sing “Shot In The Dark” and “Sweet Leaf.” However, video footage from the live stream showed audible boos from some in the crowd as he walked out.

    While the reason for the reaction wasn’t officially addressed at the show, speculation online has pointed to Draiman’s vocal support for the Israeli government amid the ongoing war in Gaza. The Disturbed vocalist made headlines in June after a visit to Israel, during which he signed bombs with messages including “F* Hamas.”

    In response to reports that he was “booed offstage,” Draiman pushed back in a series of social media posts. He wrote on Instagram:

    “As you can see…I wasn’t ‘booed off stage’ as so many people in the press and CERTAINLY #FreePalestine crowd, would have you believe.”

    He expanded further in a Facebook post:

    “Yes, there were a few boos when I walked out, but I came to pay homage to my teachers, my idols, the mighty Black Sabbath, and I wasn’t about to let a few Jew hating morons deter that. … The live stream shows the truth. Both songs went over great.”

    “There’s even a track being passed around out there that added enhanced booing to the performance just to add fuel to the fire. Pathetic.”

    Draiman, who has long expressed strong support for Israel, also reaffirmed his views and stated he will not be silenced:

    “I am STILL UNAPOLOGETICALLY A FIERCELY PRO ISRAEL JEW… I won’t be deterred, intimidated, or shamed out of rocking the asses of the masses.”

    The situation remains highly polarized. The Israeli military campaign in Gaza, launched in response to the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas that left around 1,200 dead and over 250 hostages taken, has led to over 58,000 Palestinian deaths, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which is operated by Hamas.

    Allegations of genocide by the Israeli government have been brought before the International Court of Justice by South Africa, while Israel maintains its actions are in defense of its population and denies genocidal intent. The case is ongoing, with no official ruling issued to date.

    Draiman is set to return to the UK this fall as part of Disturbed’s 2025 tour dates, which he noted are seeing strong ticket sales.
