Deafheaven are gearing up to unleash a new EP, and guitarist Kerry McCoy is promising that the upcoming release will push the band into some of their heaviest territory yet.
In a recent interview with Binaural, McCoy offered some insight into what fans can expect from the band’s next outing, calling it “the heaviest thing we’ve ever released.”
The guitarist also compared the forthcoming material to the band’s latest full-length, ‘Lonely People With Power’, making it clear that the new songs will lean considerably further into the band’s black metal influences.
“This one is much heavier. It’s definitely the closest thing to black metal we’ve ever done.”
Deafheaven have yet to announce an official release date for the EP, although the band are reportedly aiming to have the new material available before the end of 2026.
For a band that has spent much of its career blurring the boundaries between black metal, shoegaze and post-metal, McCoy’s description suggests this next release could mark a particularly aggressive turn for Deafheaven.
