A Devilskin concert in Dunedin, New Zealand took an unexpected and unsanitary turn this past weekend after a concertgoer allegedly defecated in the middle of the mosh pit, prompting a temporary halt to the show and eventual police involvement.
According to a report from the Otago Daily Times, the incident occurred during the New Zealand alternative metal band’s July 25 performance at Union Hall. Attendees reportedly remained unaware of what had happened at first, inadvertently spreading the mess throughout the pit as the crowd continued moshing.
One concertgoer who spoke to the publication anonymously described the chaotic scene:
“It was a rock and metal concert, so there was a lot of jumping. And then eventually someone must have looked down and noticed that there was just a huge mess of sh*t, just completely spread all in the mosh pit, like, all over the floor.”
The attendee went on to explain how the situation quickly escalated as people realized what had happened.
“It’s on people’s feet. People are wearing skirts and sht is up their legs and stuff, and then one girl went bleh — just vomited on the sh*t — and then everyone else starts vomiting.”
She also remarked on the size of the fecal matter involved, stating:
“It was huge, like, massive. I haven’t seen one that big before. I thought it was some guy’s shoe, it was so big. It was unbelievable.”
The performance was reportedly paused while venue staff cleaned the affected area, allowing the show to continue afterward. However, attendees told the publication that the aftermath remained visible throughout the venue, with some concertgoers left visibly distressed.
According to the report, security personnel identified the individual responsible and turned him over to local authorities. The Otago Daily Times described the suspect as a middle-aged man who allegedly “shook the log out of his trouser leg in the mosh pit.”
As bizarre as the incident may sound, it isn’t entirely unprecedented. Turnstile famously dealt with a similar situation during a show in 2021, proving that while mosh pits are known for their chaos, sometimes they can become memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Fortunately for Devilskin, the remainder of the show was able to continue after the cleanup effort was completed.
