Post-hardcore supergroup Evil Island have released their new single “Melted Heart,” the third preview from their upcoming debut album Terraform The Afterlife.
The project brings together veterans of The Blood Brothers, Glassjaw, OFF!, and …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, with the new track also featuring guest vocals from Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells.
The song serves as the opening track on the upcoming record, which was produced by Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot) and is set for release on August 14 via Blowed Out Records.
The accompanying music video was directed by comedian and filmmaker Jonah Ray, expanding the band’s visual world alongside the release.
Vocalist Johnny Whitney described the lyrical concept behind the track as a reflection of modern attention culture, stating:
“‘Melted Heart’ takes place in a world where live-streamed humiliation rituals and public meltdowns have replaced talent, character, and achievement as the dominant social currency…”
He continued, framing the song’s surreal imagery and recurring motifs as an extension of earlier Blood Brothers mythology:
“The Octopus Queen from The Blood Brothers’ ‘March on Electric Children’ found her way back into the lyrics because I wanted to see if she still worked as a metaphor for the rot at the center of our culture…”
Speaking on her collaboration, Alexis Krauss said:
“Had a blast working with Evil Island on ‘Melted Heart’. I’ve been a huge fan of Johnny’s voice… Maybe we can go on tour one day?!?”
Director Jonah Ray also reflected on the full-circle nature of the project, describing how longstanding personal connections between members of the creative circle helped bring the video together.
He noted that his connection to The Blood Brothers dates back to his teenage years in Hawaii and later evolved through years of collaborations with guitarist Cody Votolato, eventually leading to the formation of Evil Island and the creation of the video.
