Screamo collective Evil Island—featuring members of The Blood Brothers, OFF!, and new addition ex-Glassjaw / Men, Women & Children guitarist Todd Weinstock—have announced their debut album ‘Terraform The Afterlife’, arriving August 14 via Blowed Out Records.
The record was produced by Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot) and co-released through the label he helped found, setting the tone for what the band describe as an unrestrained, chaotic, and creatively explosive studio process.
A new video for “Animal,” co-directed by Patrick Lascu and Chelsea Deebo, has also been released alongside the announcement, offering the first full glimpse into the project’s visual and sonic direction.
Massive guest lineup spans post-hardcore, indie, and experimental scenes
One of the most notable elements of ‘Terraform The Afterlife’ is its extensive guest roster, including the first recorded vocal appearance from Fugazi co-frontman Guy Picciotto since 2002.
Picciotto reflected on his involvement, recalling his long relationship with The Blood Brothers:
“Last November I got a text from Cody Votolato checking in and asking to talk on the phone… I had worked as a producer with Cody and his Blood Brothers compatriots on their last album ‘Young Machetes’… I had been blown away by their reunion shows the year before… I certainly wasn’t expecting him to drop the bomb that he, Johnny and Mark had formed a new band…”
Other guest appearances include Sleigh Bells vocalist Alexis Krauss, Michael Gatto of XCOMM, Jordan Blilie of The Blood Brothers, and Filth Is Eternal vocalist Lis Di Angelo.
Johnny Whitney on the creation of ‘Terraform The Afterlife’
Evil Island vocalist Johnny Whitney described the project as a direct creative response to the aftermath of The Blood Brothers’ reunion cycle:
“Evil Island was born out of the firestorm of creative energy that Cody, Mark and I felt when The Blood Brothers reunion tour ended in 2024… I knew our story wasn’t over… we wrote eleven songs, brought Ross Robinson into the fold… and suddenly everything locked into place…”
He also elaborated on the recording process, which stretched far beyond its intended timeline:
“What was supposed to be a two-week recording session turned into a five-month descent into something far bigger than we imagined… We built a musical world that’s dazzling, violent, joyful, ugly, melodic, brutal…”
“Animal” video concept
On the newly released track “Animal,” Whitney added:
“‘Animal’ felt enormous almost immediately… It’s the only song we’ve ever written that sounds authentically like us while also sounding like it could be blasted through the PA at a football stadium…”
He also described the video’s surreal concept:
“Our pitch for the music video was basically, ‘What if ISIS started making TikTok dance videos?’ I don’t know if we achieved that, but I did get to smash a head with a sledgehammer…”
