Extinction A.D. Target ICE Authority In New Anti-Authoritarian Single “Thaw”

Crossover metal outfit Extinction A.D. have released their politically charged new single Thaw, now available to stream alongside an accompanying music video. The track marks the band’s second release since signing with M-Theory Audio earlier this year.

Frontman Rick Jimenez (also of This Is Hell) explained that the song intentionally leans into outspoken political commentary, pushing back against authoritarianism and what he views as troubling ideological shifts within heavy music communities.

“It’s very easy to assume writing an anti-authoritarian song is passé in heavy music in 2026, but as a band that exists in both the metal world and the hardcore world, it’s surprisingly polarizing. The ‘defenders of the status quo’ all the way to the ‘regressive back-to-the-past’ thinking infiltrating our scenes is purely bizarre to me.”

Jimenez added that the lyrics serve as a direct condemnation of abuses of federal authority and extremist ideology disguised as political support.

“This song is an unabashed condemnation of the abuse of federal power in the ICE organization and the denial of celebrating racist and fascist ideals under the guise of supporting politicians.”

According to the band, the music video was designed to reflect a collective message rather than focus solely on the musicians themselves.

“The video for ‘Thaw’ was to bring like-minded people into our world and be just as, if not more, important than the four members of the band. It’s not just our song, it’s everyone’s song.”

With “Thaw,” Extinction A.D. continue blending crossover aggression with pointed social commentary, reinforcing their reputation for politically outspoken heavy music.
