Fear Factory have officially entered a new chapter with the release of “Roboticist,” their first new single featuring vocalist Milo Silvestro.
The timing of the track’s arrival is hardly accidental. “Roboticist” went live at exactly 2:14am EST on August 29th, which carries some serious significance for fans of the Terminator franchise. In the fictional timeline of those films, Skynet became self-aware at that precise date and time in 1997 — ultimately setting the stage for the machine uprising that followed.
Given Fear Factory’s long-running fascination with the sci-fi franchise and its influence on the band’s industrial metal aesthetic, the timing makes for a fitting launch.
The song itself has been in development for considerably longer than its official release might suggest. Dino Cazares previously shared an early instrumental version of “Roboticist” online in 2023, but this newly completed rendition marks its first official release.
More importantly, it represents Fear Factory’s first studio recording since the departure of longtime vocalist Burton C. Bell. Silvestro joined the band in 2023 and has since toured extensively with Cazares and the group.
A music video for “Roboticist” was directed by Vicente Cordero, whose previous credits include work with Cradle Of Filth and Hollywood Undead. The track was produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Damien Rainaud.
Cazares, the sole remaining member of Fear Factory’s classic-era lineup, offered the following on the song:
“The future isn’t coming. It’s already here, ‘Roboticist’ is the next evolution of Fear Factory. Man, Machine and the war for what comes next. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the beginning of a new era of Fear Factory.”
The band have yet to reveal further details regarding their upcoming eleventh studio album, although “Roboticist” is expected to feature on that effort.
For now, Fear Factory have plenty of live dates lined up, including an extensive European run followed by North American shows with Mushroomhead, Nine Treasures, Darkest Hour and Brotality.
