Godsmack are bringing their music into the world of comics with a new supernatural graphic novel inspired by their acclaimed album “Awake.”
The multi-platinum hard rock band have partnered with Sumerian Comics for “Godsmack: Awake,” a 96-page full-color hardcover that transforms the band’s 2x platinum third studio album into a dark supernatural story exploring themes of memory, guilt, violence, and redemption.
The graphic novel expands on the atmosphere and themes found throughout “Awake,” turning the album’s lyrics and concepts into a narrative centered around a man named Sevrin, who finds himself stranded in the isolated sand dunes of Massachusetts with no memory of how he arrived.
According to Sumerian Comics, the story follows Sevrin as he struggles with unexplained injuries, missing memories, and a mysterious matchbook that repeatedly leads him to the wrong bar. As Halloween night unfolds, he begins experiencing visions of violent deaths from different eras, each connected by cycles of greed, rage, and destruction.
The official synopsis reads:
“On a night when ghosts walk freely and demons laugh, Sevrin must decide whether he is doomed to relive these lives forever, or whether he can finally wake up and change.”
“Godsmack: Awake” is written by Jonathan Hedrick, illustrated by Giusi Lo Piccolo (Diablo: Dawn of Hatred), colored by Simone D’Angelo, and lettered by Toni Sardina. The oversized hardcover measures 7.25 x 11 inches and includes a dust cover.
