GWAR have unveiled a brand-new free documentary offering fans a deep look into the chaotic, creative, and highly technical world behind their stage production. The feature showcases the intergalactic shock metal legends’ daily life on tour, revealing how their monstrous stage shows are assembled from the ground up.
The documentary was produced by Decibel as part of their latest issue, which features an extensive oral history of GWAR in celebration of their 40th anniversary.
As the video highlights, it takes an entire army of crew members to construct the elaborate sets and operate the massive props the band is known for. The documentary also dives into the meticulous safety protocols the band uses to protect venues from the various liquids blasted across the crowd every night, along with the equipment needed to make it all happen.
This September, GWAR found themselves in the spotlight after MAGA influencers took issue with footage of their long-running tradition of theatrically “sacrificing” exaggerated depictions of public figures — a staple of their live performances for decades.
