Before ascending to pop stardom, Halsey had ties to the New Jersey hardcore and metalcore scene, working as a promoter in her early days. In a recent fan meet and greet, the diamond-certified artist shared her admiration for the genre, saying:
“I used to promote hardcore shows. In Jersey before I started making music. I did a lot of hardcore, but then also some of the more commercial hardcore. The biggest show I ever booked, I was 16, was like August Burns Red and The Devil Wears Prada.”
She also revealed that her high school yearbook quote was a lyric from Boston melodic hardcore band Defeater, further cementing her connection to the heavier side of music.
Halsey’s love for heavy music has been no secret over the years. In 2019, she paid tribute to shock rocker Marilyn Manson with a large tattoo and even dressed as him for Halloween. Since then, her collaborations have included working with Bring Me The Horizon and crafting an entire album (If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power) with industrial rock legends Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
