Two additional inmates have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in connection with the death of former Lostprophets vocalist Ian Watkins, who was killed on October 11th at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England.
Watkins, who was serving a 29-year prison sentence with an extended six-year license for multiple child-related sexual offenses, was reportedly attacked and fatally stabbed while behind bars.
Following the initial arrests of Rashid Gedel (25) and Samuel Dodsworth (43)—both charged with murder earlier this month—police have now detained two more prisoners, aged 23 and 39, on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
A statement from West Yorkshire Police issued on October 21st confirmed the development:
“Detectives investigating the murder of Ian Watkins at HMP Wakefield on Saturday 11 October have made two further arrests.
Two men aged 23 and 39 have been arrested from HMP Wakefield on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
They are both in police custody and will be interviewed over the course of today, they will then be bailed and returned to prison while enquiries continue.
Last week two men were charged with murder in relation to the incident, they are on remand awaiting trial.”
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, added that extensive enquiries remain ongoing and that Watkins’ family is being kept informed as the case develops.
According to The Sun, Watkins was allegedly stabbed in the neck by another inmate, leading to his death. He was previously attacked and stabbed in 2023 over what was believed to be a drug-related dispute.
Lostprophets disbanded immediately following Watkins’ 2013 conviction. The band publicly condemned his crimes and stated they had no prior knowledge of his actions.
