DECESSUS Vocalist Ignacia Fernández Performs Death Metal Song During Miss World Chile Semifinals

Ignacia Fernández, vocalist of Chilean progressive death metal band Decessus, made waves at the semifinals of Miss Mundo Chile (Miss World Chile) with a bold and unexpected performance. Representing both her musical and modeling passions, Fernández took the stage alongside her bandmate Carlos Palma to deliver a live rendition of a new, unreleased Decessus track from their forthcoming album.

In addition to the live performance, Decessus have also shared a video for their latest single, “Dark Flames”, which can be viewed below.

Taking to social media following the performance, Fernández reflected on the significance of bringing metal to such a mainstream platform:

“Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose. Being able to express it on stage at @chilevision and @misschilemundo was an opportunity I deeply value.

It was a great experience to break down barriers on open television, inspire, be real with it and show that you don’t have to fear the prejudices of others.

Her performance has since drawn attention both within the Chilean metal community and beyond, praised for showcasing authenticity and challenging stereotypes about what metal artists — and beauty pageant contestants — can represent.
