DECESSUS Frontwoman Ignacia Fernández Crowned ‘Miss World Chile’ After Viral Metal Performance

Ignacia Fernández, vocalist for Chilean progressive death metal band Decessus, has officially been crowned Miss World Chile. The win follows her viral semifinal performance at Miss Mundo Chile, where she shocked and impressed audiences by performing an unreleased Decessus track alongside guitarist Carlos Palma.

Sharing her excitement on social media on November 10th, Fernández wrote:

“Couldn’t be more happier and grateful! I take on this beautiful challenge with all the energy and heart put into representing my country in the best way.

I promise to give it my all, with passion, labor and purpose.

Thank you for the worldwide recognition of my singing, a little piece of my soul that inspires me to keep growing and dreaming big.
Let’s go all the way Chile… for that crown!”

Her bold choice to bring death metal to a national beauty pageant stage has since drawn widespread attention across both the pageant and metal communities. Following her performance, Fernández reflected on her love for the genre, stating:

“Metal has been a fundamental part of who I am as a person and in my life: a refuge, a source of strength and purpose. Being able to express it on stage at @chilevision and @misschilemundo was an opportunity I deeply value.

It was a great experience to break down barriers on open television, inspire, be real with it and show that you don’t have to fear the prejudices of others.

Thanks to my band @carlospalmaofficial and @decessus_official for accompanying me and to everyone who has shown their support—horns up.”

Fernández will now go on to represent Chile at the Miss World 2026 competition, marking one of the most unique crossovers between death metal and pageantry in recent memory.
