Metallica frontman James Hetfield is preparing to walk down the aisle once again. The legendary vocalist and guitarist reportedly became engaged over the weekend after proposing to partner Adriana Gillett during an underwater excursion swimming alongside whale sharks.
Hetfield’s engagement comes several years after his split from longtime wife Francesca Tomasi, whom he divorced in 2022 following roughly 25 years of marriage. Since then, the 62-year-old musician has been in a relationship with Gillett, culminating in the uniquely staged proposal.
Members of the Metallica camp shared a photo captured during the underwater moment via social media, offering fans a glimpse at the unconventional engagement setting.
Gillett later acknowledged the proposal in a separate post, revealing that Hetfield timed the occasion to coincide with her 46th birthday on Friday, March 13.
