Jello Biafra may have made an emotional return to the stage last weekend, but a new update from Alternative Tentacles makes it clear that the punk icon’s recovery is far from over.
The former Dead Kennedys frontman made his first public performance since suffering a hemorrhagic stroke in March with a brief guest appearance alongside Wheelchair Sports Camp during ‘TentacleFest’ in San Francisco, California. The appearance marked an encouraging milestone, with Biafra also serving as one of the event’s hosts.
However, Alternative Tentacles has now shared a follow-up statement urging fans to temper expectations, revealing that the 68-year-old musician is still dealing with significant health challenges.
“A bit of clarification from Alternative Tentacles Records regarding Jello Biafra’s condition.
Like all of you, we were thrilled to see Jello back on stage at TentacleFEST. That said, it’s important to keep things in perspective. Jello was only on stage for less than 10 minutes, and by the end of the event he was visibly exhausted and pale. It took lot out of him to do even that much.
He’s continuing to work hard to regain his strength and balance, but that process is going to take time. As much as we’d all love to see him back on stage regularly, it’s simply too soon to expect that of him. Like all of you, we continue to support his recovery and understand it’s going to be a long road. We want him to take all the time he needs.”
The clarification comes just days after fans celebrated seeing Biafra back onstage for the first time since his stroke. While the appearance was an encouraging sign, the latest statement underscores that his recovery remains ongoing and that any future live performances will depend on his continued progress.
For now, the focus remains on Biafra’s health as he continues rehabilitation following the life-threatening medical emergency earlier this year.
