Internal conflict has boiled over within Jesus Piece, as three of the band’s four members announced today (August 26th) that the group is effectively over. In a joint statement, guitarist David Updike, guitarist John DiStefano, and drummer Luis Aponte revealed that the band had already disbanded after a member quit abruptly, and that any continuation without them is not legitimate.
The lone member not included in that statement was vocalist Aaron Heard—who, just minutes before, promoted an upcoming October 25th Jesus Piece performance at the One Big Party festival in Phoenix, AZ. The show listing refers to the band as Je$us Piece, a change that Heard has also reflected on his Instagram profile.
In their post, the trio accused Heard of trying to move forward without them, writing:
“Jesus Piece has been dead for some time. A member quit abruptly for personal reasons and we felt wrong continuing without him.
Anything you see associated with this name or similar, playing our music and using our art, is not related to anything we worked for over the last 10 years.
We are proud of everything we did and it changed our live forever. To try and continue that without us or in spite of us, is a mockery of what we’ve done and tried to do.
Thank you all for everything!
Lu, John, Dave“
