Heavy metal icon King Diamond have announced a major lineup change, with acclaimed guitarist Gus G. (Firewind, ex-Ozzy Osbourne) joining the band’s lineup. The move comes as co-founding guitarist Andy LaRocque departs the group after 40 years with the legendary act.
LaRocque, who helped shape the sound and legacy of King Diamond since joining in 1985, has officially parted ways with the band in a mutual decision. A statement from the group praised his decades of contributions and influence on heavy metal.
“The band extends their deepest gratitude and utmost respect to Andy LaRocque, whose extraordinary 40-year contribution to King Diamond has left a permanent and irreplaceable mark on the band’s legacy and on heavy metal as a whole.”
The band also shared their own statement regarding LaRocque’s exit:
“After 40 years King Diamond the band and Andy LaRocque have mutually decided to part ways. Looking back, we do so with nothing but pride, gratitude, and respect for everything we have achieved together.”
While LaRocque’s departure marks the end of one of the longest-running partnerships in the band’s history, King Diamond are moving forward with Gus G. stepping into the guitarist role.
King Diamond himself welcomed the new addition, noting that Gus G. will continue his work with Firewind and his solo projects while also contributing to the next chapter of King Diamond.
“It’s a big honor for me to welcome Gus G. as our new guitarist. Gus will still continue with all his current projects, Firewind, solo project, etc. No restrictions, just careful planning.”
The band is already working with Gus G. on new material, with King Diamond teasing that fans can expect to hear his guitar work on upcoming King Diamond music.
“We are already working with Gus and I simply can’t wait for you to hear all the new King Diamond music with him playing guitar on it! STAY HEAVY.”
