Death Tribute Band Left To Die Sign With Relapse Records, Announce Debut Album ‘Initium Mortis’ And Release “Archangel”

Death tribute outfit Left To Die have officially signed with Relapse Records and announced plans to release their debut full-length album, ‘Initium Mortis’, on July 17.

The band — featuring Terry Butler, Rick Rozz, Matt Harvey, and Gus Rios — have also premiered the album’s first single, “Archangel.”

Rather than creating entirely new material, ‘Initium Mortis’ revisits early Death/Mantas-era songs and demos, reimagining them with updated production while maintaining the spirit of the original recordings. In statements surrounding the announcement, the members described the album as both a tribute to the earliest foundations of Death metal and an opportunity to give those formative songs a more fully realized presentation.

Harvey explained that the band carefully selected material from the earliest Death and Mantas demo eras to create what he described as an “alternate universe” companion to Scream Bloody Gore, while Butler noted that many fans never had the chance to properly hear those recordings due to the rough quality of the original tape-trading era demos.
