Left To Die have premiered their blistering cover of Mantas’ classic “Legion Of Doom,” offering another preview of the Death tribute band’s upcoming debut album, Initium Mortis.
The track marks the third single released from Initium Mortis, which is scheduled to arrive on July 17 via Relapse Records. Originally recorded by Mantas—the pioneering band that would eventually evolve into the legendary death metal outfit Death—“Legion Of Doom” remains one of the genre’s earliest and most influential songs.
Left To Die features an impressive lineup of Death alumni and death metal veterans, including Terry Butler (Obituary) and Rick Rozz (formerly of Massacre), with Rozz having also played during Mantas’ formative years. Rounding out the lineup are Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome) and Gus Rios (Gruesome, formerly of Malevolent Creation).
Speaking about revisiting the iconic track, Butler said:
“‘Legion Of Doom’ is heavy as hell. One of the best and earliest knuckle-dragging riffs out there. So heavy, in fact, that Death brought the main riff back out of retirement for the song ‘Spiritual Healing!'”
With Initium Mortis arriving later this month, Left To Die continue paying tribute to the earliest days of Death while introducing these foundational songs to a new generation of extreme metal fans.
