Former Cradle Of Filth keyboardist Lindsay Schoolcraft has hit back at All That Remains frontman Phil Labonte after his controversial remarks claiming that “therapy is for women” and that men “don’t solve their problems by talking.”
Labonte made the comments during a recent appearance on the Today’s Boondoggle Podcast, where he expanded on themes from his 2024 op-ed “The Silent Crisis: Why Society Is Failing Men And Boys.” In the interview, he argued that men are increasingly “checking out” of society and suggested that traditional therapy is not an effective solution for men, stating that “men solve their problems through action” rather than conversation-based treatment.
Labonte also touched on broader cultural and social issues, including declining education rates among men, rising suicide statistics, and shifting gender roles, framing the situation as a “crisis” affecting modern society.
However, in a new interview with Blabbermouth.net, Schoolcraft pushed back strongly against his comments and the framing of therapy and mental health support.
“He’s not a healthcare professional, he’s not a psychologist, he’s not a therapist.”
She went on to share her own perspective, emphasizing the benefits of therapy and mental health care, particularly for men.
“This is my opinion and I’m not a professional either — I have a lot of male friends in therapy and it’s done them a world of wonder and has transformed their lives because you can do healing work and then you can do growing work, and there’s life coaching. You can come out on the other side. You don’t have to struggle.
Discouraging people from going to therapy, especially men — that’s an extremely toxic, masculine view that is ultimately an opinion from the patriarchy that has done a lot of damage to society and is the reason why it’s crumbling right now.
I think he probably does need to go to therapy and is a scared little boy who cares too much about the scared little boy inside, his inner child and is scared of what his macho homies are going to think of him.
There should be no shame in getting help. If your brain is broken, you need a doctor. If you broke a bone, you’re not going to leave the bone broken; you’re going to get help. You’re not going to get a Band-Aid. You’re going to get it reset and cast and x-rayed. That’s what therapy is. It’s healing the brain.”
Schoolcraft added that discouraging therapy, particularly for men, sends a harmful message to those who may already be struggling.
The comments arrive as Schoolcraft continues to promote her latest solo album Harrowing, released on June 19, 2026. The record was produced by Justin deBileck (Motionless In White) and features guest appearances from Krista Shipperbottom on “So Alive,” along with contributions from Rocky Gray (ex-Evanescence) and Spencer Creaghan, among others.
Schoolcraft originally rose to prominence as the keyboardist and backing vocalist for Cradle Of Filth between 2013 and 2020, contributing to albums including Hammer Of The Witches and Cryptoriana (The Seductiveness of Decay). She later launched her solo career with 2019’s Martyr, which earned a Juno nomination and established her as a standalone artist in the symphonic metal space.
